Reading is a big thing in our house. I love to read and, luckily, so do my daughters. They love books and I would say they have too many of them but, let’s face it, there is NO such thing as too many books!! Several years ago I thought it would be fun to take reading themed pictures of my girls to use as decoration in their play area. Needless to say the results were adorable.
My oldest daughter Kenzie was real big into princesses and fairy tales. I found it only fitting that we’d do her photo shoot around that idea. Dressed in her Belle ball gown {our favorite Disney princess} and fancy crown, we headed to our local cemetery. Wait, what? Cemetery?! I know, sounds a little morbid, but there is a chapel there made of stone that has a castle-esque look to it. It was the perfect background with no tombstones in sight.
I got some great shots from Kenzie’s session so now it was on to my youngest, Jillian’s. Now Jillian is my silly little monkey. Her pictures had to be a theme that matched her goofy, fun personality. I combed through our endless stack of books for some inspiration. When I came to Horton Hears A Who I knew I had a winner. Dr. Seuss is the embodiment of silly and whimsy, perfect for my Bean! I instantly had an idea of what I wanted for the picture and began to hunt down the props for it. My sister-in-law let me borrow her collection of Dr. Seuss books to add to my own. I also found a little wagon at Walmart that matched the colors of the theme perfectly. I also remembered that Jillian had a stuffed Horton that came with the book. In addition, I had the perfect outfit for her that tied the theme all together. It took a few many shots but I finally got the money shot I wanted {who knew one year olds could be such divas?!}. I am sooooo happy with how it turned out!
I framed both pictures and hung them in their play area, along with signs displaying my favorite quotes about reading and books. Currently, the play room is going through a bit of a makeover and these pictures will be re-framed and redisplayed. I am also going to incorporate the picture below, which I took last year. It is of my girls reading some of their favorite books in front of our city’s library. Kenzie loves to read to her little sister and Jillian loves to listen to her read. Scenes like this melt my heart so I wanted to make sure I had a photo to capture it that I could display in our reading themed gallery wall as well. Once my display is finished you can be sure to find the new display under the My Creative Home page. I can’t wait to show you! Stay tuned!
